Rovers took the lead through Jack Fairbairn after good work with Pat Daly. Broadway equalised before half time. The second half was all Rovers but chances were being missed left, right and centre. Then Broadway scored to make it 2 - 1 and it looked like Rovers were going to rue their missed chances until a James Barnett cross was headed into his own net by the defender and Rovers breathed a sigh of relieve at getting a point. The Second Team took on Cheltenham Civil Service Res looking to build on their 1 victory and a weeks rest, but it was not to be as the visitors ran out 4 - 0 winners. The Third Team made it 2 wins out of 2 with a 5 - 3 victory over Cheltenham Civil Service IV. The goals coming from Nick James who scored 2, Nick Bevan, Tom Averis and Jon Whitlock all got one. Good luck to all teams next week.
FIRST'S STAY TOP
The First Team travelled to last years champions Real Whaddon for what turned out to be an epic game. Rovers came back 3 times to tie the game at 3 - 3 with minutes left and then squandered 2 glorious chances to win it. Manager Tom Price said "what a game the fans certainly enjoyed this one. I was unhappy with 2 of the goals we conceded but happy with the manor in which we came back 3 times and had them on the back foot for the last 5 minutes. But all in all I think this was a good point away from home". The Third Team took on Pittville United at The Beeches and grabbed all 3 points with a 2 - 1 victory, the goals coming from Mike Willis and Tom Yoxall.

On a sun drenched day at Plock Court Rovers did not show for the first half and allowed Finlay an easy ride, but the team appeared in the second and having grabbed an equaliser through Pat Daly Rovers looked good for a point. But with the legendary Dave Payne making a late appearance on the sideline to support his boyhood team, Rover's rose to his presence and managed to carve out a winner after great work form Oli Bues allowed a RIGHT foot volley from Scott Green to snatch all 3 points. The Second Team were in County Cup action and travelled to Nympsfield, in a day of bizarre encounters they fought back from 2 - 0 down to make it 2 - 2 with about 15 minutes to go. The Third Team were back in league action and played new comers Newlands Athletic, who were also top of the table. Rovers came away with nothing and on the back of an 8 - 0 drubbing. IT'S ALL OVER
Charlton Rovers' finished off the senior teams season with a thrilling top of the table clash against rivals Falcons. This was not just an end of season derby match this was the decider for the title, with both teams going into this level on everything other than goal difference. With the biggest crowd at The Beeches for some years they were not to be disappointed as both teams battled out a thrilling 2 - 2 draw. Rovers came from behind twice through Oli Bues and Pat Daly but could not find the elusive goal which would have sealed the title. So congratulations to Falcons. Manager Tom Price said "I'm gutted for everyone of the boys, we new it was going to be hard but I thought we would have that little bit extra to see us through. Fair play to Falcons they showed great resilience and hold up play. As for the season it is a hell of a turn around from last season, we brought some old faces back and some new ones in and the team have gelled well. If this is what I get from them in their first season playing together I'm licking my lips at what they will do next season. We will come on fresh and strong and with the addition of 1 or 2 players I can really see us challenging for the Division 1 title. I would just like to thank all the fans for turning up to support us, it made one hell of a difference. I would also like to thank all of the players who have made this promotion winning season possible. Roll on Saturday for our end of season knees up in Las Vegas and then the end of season tour in good old Newquay".

JUST A POINT
The Second Team were the only ones to gain anything this weekend. The First Team were involved in an eight goal thriller away at Northleach Town. A brace from Tom Herbert and one for Pat Daly as the game finished 5 - 3 to Northleach. The Third Team were at home to AC Olympia Res. but lost 5 - 3. Good luck mid-week and next Saturday boys.

NON WINNING WEEKEND
The First Team lost at home to Bredon Res. 2 - 1. With Rovers in control and going into the break at 1 - 1, They failed to appear in the second half with the same display, chances were created but they were not taken. The Second Team were at home to table toppers Upton Town. Rovers were down to the bare 11 but with 10 mins to go were 2 - 1 up thanks to a brace from Matt Hartley. Then captain Steve Rogers got injured and had to solider on and effectively down to 10 men Rovers were punished and ended up losing 3 - 2. The Third Team's run of 3 wins on the trot was abruptley ended losing 6 - 1 away to Priors FC. Heads up and better luck next weekend teams.
3 OUT OF 3
The Third Team made it a record breaking 3 wins out of 3 after beating Cheltenham Saracens IV 5 - 3 at The Beeches thanks to goals from Tom Collinson, Peter Oates, Jak Thompsett, Rob McGeever and an own goal. The First Team travelled to table toppers Real Whaddon looking to upset the apple cart. Things started well for Rovers going 1 - 0 up thanks to a Pete Hambling lob. Whaddon soon equalised, then a Tom Barton cross was headed in at the back post by Pat Daly. Whaddon equalised and then the cruel blow happened two freak own goals a minute before half time put Whaddon 4 - 2 up. Rovers worked tirelessly and created several chances but to no avial. Then whaddon made it 5 and captain Mark Herbert un-impressed with the refs decision got his marching orders for telling him what he thought. RIVALS RUINED
It was another all winning weekend as 2 out of 3 teams took to the field. Rovers First Team took on local rivals Falcons and were hoping to add to there away victory earlier in the season. The game was played in good spirit and Rovers ran out easy 2 - 0 winners. Goals from Mike McCarthy and captain Mark Herbert were witnessed by the biggest crowd of the season at Balcarass "Square Nets". Chants of "Can't we play you every week" are still ringing in the fields. Manager Tom Price said " It is always great to beat your rivals and we played very well again today and deserved the win. It was close at times but we stayed strong and battled for each other. 6 points taken of our rivals is always good in any season and not conceeding in both games was brilliant". Round 2 over at The Beeches saw Charlton Rovers Second Team and Falcons Res Team not make it out of the changing room as the game was postponed due to a heavy rain fall. The Third Team travelled to Northleach Res looking to build on last weeks victory and for the first time this season managed back to back victories, running out 4 - 2 winners.
WINNING WEEKEND
With only The First Team in action Charlton Rovers managed an all winning weekend for the first time this season. Rovers travelled to Gala Wilton and came away with all 3 points, thanks to a brace from Tom Herbert. This game saw many first's, the return of the Price brothers, Joe back in the heart of the defence and Tom back in the managerial hot seat. A first win for 2010 and a clean sheet as well as the introduction of Rich "pinky & perky" Cox in the sticks. Rovers played well and put themselves in good stead ahead of the local derby at home to Falcons next week and round 2 will take place at The Beeches where Rovers Reserves take on Falcons Reserves at the same time. Good luck to all teams for the up and coming games.
STOP START TO 2010
So far 2010 has been a stop start in the terms of actually playing football. The First Team have played 2 games. Losing both to the teams lying in 2nd & 3rd in the league. Rovers did not go down without a fight and gave a good account of themselves. The Second Team have managed 3 games, winning and losing one in the league and going out of the cup on penalties thanks to a certain individual. The Third Team have also managed to play 3 league games losing 2 and winning 1. This weekend looks like it could be a "white out" aswell, but fingers crossed we will get some action.

CUP RUN OVER, BUT BIG WIN AT LAST
The First and Second Teams were both at home in the County Cup. The First Team lost to Stroud Division 1 leaders Whitminster and the Second Team lost to Cheltenham Division 3 leaders FC Barometrics Res. But the result of the day came as the Third Team smashed 7 (seven) past Belmore Res. When manager Matt Chilvers was asked what was different about todays performance his reply was "My boys learnt how to score and how to enjoy a game".
NON WINNING WEEKEND
The First Team lost away at Bredon 6 - 4 in an entertaining game, the weather did not help either side and in diabolical conditions Rovers suffered against the wind, rain and slope in the second half to let a 3 - 2 half time lead slip away. The Second Team were away at fellow title challengers Upton Town and lost to a late goal 1 - 0. The Third Team were at home to Priors and after being down to 10 men within 10 minutes it was always going to be a struggle and they eventually lost the game 6 - 0. Better luck next weekend teams.

ALL WINNING WEEKEND
For the first time this season all 3 senior sides managed victory on the same day. The First Team took on fellow Division 2 side Cinderford Town Res. at home in the second round of Junior County Cup. Rovers won the game 5 - 3 thanks to a brace each from Pete Hambling and Tom Barton and a 26 yard left footed screamer from Jonny "Jdubs" Williams. Tom Herbert also enjoyed some of the action between the sticks saving a penalty and then being booked for diving to early. The Second Team were at home in the second round of the Intermediate County Cup and they won comfortably against Cirencester Division 1 side Beeches (THE). Running out 5 - 0 winners thanks to two from Tom Green, a screamer from Matt Courtney-Smith, and one each for Rich Hartley and Charlie Homer. The Third Team got their first victory of the season beating Northleach Res 2 - 1 thanks to goals from manager Matt Chilvers and one from Alex Wade to round of the all winning weekend.
ON TOP
The Second Team moved back to the top of Division 4 with a comfortable 3 - 0 win at home to Kings Res. Goals From Brad Hiscoke, Pat Daly and Caz Lonergan sealed the victory for stand in manager Steve Rogers. The First Team were unlucky though drawing 1 - 1 at home to second placed Gala Wilton Res. Rovers played their best football of the season in the first half and were leading 1 - 0 at the break although it should have been about 5. But then in a bad condition manager Tom Price tried reverse psycology and it back fired on him, and Rovers could only draw a game they should of won Price said " the boys had played fantastic but my mate "hangover" kicked in to gear and my mouth followed. I can assure you I was severely punished by the team in Southampton for my errors"
AT LAST
Rovers First Team were the only one's in action again this weekend and played a high profile local derby against Falcons. Rovers made the long trip through the gate to The Beeches and made the short walk back with all 3 points. A great team goal involving Pete Hambling, Tom Barton and Mike McCarthy saw Hambling slot the only goal of the game mid way through the second half. Manager Tom Price said " It is always nice to win a derby and it was a close affair, we had to hold on at the death. I saw something for the first time this season today, players were actually knackered and some appeared to have sweat on their brows, which is what I want to see every week. It was a vast improvement on previous weeks but the question is can they repeat it next week at home to the team that now occupy second spot Gala Wilton Res??" Price answered that question with "They bloody better or heads will roll!"
OVER AND OUT
The First Team were the only one's in action this weekend travelling to Andoversford for the 1st round of the Senior League Cup. Rovers started well but found themselves trailing to a long range free kick. The second half was a lot better chance after chance came but to no avail. Andoversford soon found themselves 3 - 0 up but Rovers had other ideas getting the game back to 3 - 2 thanks to 2 goals from Pete Hambling, but as Rovers pushed for the equaliser Andoversford broke and scored 2 more. Not the best preperation for the return of league action away at Falcons next week!!!
7 OUT OF 7
The Second Team made it 7 wins out of 7 with a slender 1 - 0 away victory against Tivoli Rovers. Rich Hartley poped up to head the winner and leave Rovers joint top of Division 4. The First team are slipping further of the pace in Division 2 losing 5 - 2 away at Dowty Dynamos. Manager Tom Price said " we are stuck in a black hole and are struggling to see any light. At least the boys had a smile on their faces at the end and enjoyed a drop of beer together". The Third Team are still searching for their first victory after losing 4 - 1 to W M K. Manager Matt Chilvers said "Even though we lost there were plenty of plus points".

CLOSE CALL
The Second Team scraped through to the second round of the Intermediate County Cup. After destroying Cam Bulldogs in the First Half and leading 4 - 0 thanks to goals from Pat Daly, Mark Herbert and a brace from Matt Courtney-Smith. Rovers started the second half playing some good football but got a bit complacent and had to hang on in nervy last 10 minutes to win the game 4 - 3. The Third Team took on FC Lakeside for the second week and were unlucky to lose this one. After taking the lead everytime thanks to goals from Jon Adams, Caz Lonergan and a brace from Jack Cooper, Rovers were deadlocked at 4 - 4 going into the last few minutes and looked like grabbing a point, that was until a diabolical refereeing decision handed the away team a penalty which they duly converted.

9 GOAL THRILLER IN CURTAIN RAISER
The First Team got the ball rolling in the new season for Rovers in a thrilling 5 - 4 victory against a very young Cheltenham Saracens. Rovers were slow of the mark and found themselves one down after five minutes, but Pat Daly soon had Rovers level. Rovers playing a new formation and coming to terms with playing against opposition went into the break 2 - 1 down. An inspired team talk by the "Three amigos" got Rovers ticking at the start of the second half. In a twelve minute period Rovers had scored three goals through man of the match Tom Barton, sealing his hat-trick from the spot after a Saracens defender had rugby tackled Tom Herbert to the floor and then received his marching orders. Even with ten men Saracens did not give up and managed to draw level. But up stepped Pete Hambling, frsh of the bench Hambling created three great chances and produced three great saves from the visitors keeper within five minutes. He then took the ball in his stride and beat the last man before placing the ball in the bottom corner to give Rovers their first victory of the season at Fortress "square nets" Balcarass.
